Shawn Vaughn, CPDT-KA is the owner and head trainer of Achieve Obedience Academy, LLC, with over 20 years of experience working with dogs across a wide range of disciplines. Her career began in competitive conformation and obedience, and later expanded to include working with rescue dogs labeled as “unruly” or “reactive,” helping them develop the skills needed to successfully live in homes.

Since 2009, Shawn has specialized in foundation training, learning theory, and behavior modification, with a particular focus on working dogs—including mobility, medical alert, and psychiatric service dogs. As a retired service dog handler and long-standing member of the service dog community, she brings both professional expertise and personal insight to her work.

Shawn and her husband, Jason, share their home with 11 dogs, including six collies, a Siberian Husky, two Australian Labradoodles, and a Great Pyrenees. She actively competes with her collies in conformation, rally, and other dog sports.

Shawn is a Certified Professional Dog Trainer (CPDT-KA) through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT), a member of the Pet Professional Guild (PPG) and the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), an AKC Canine Good Citizen and Trick Dog Evaluator, and a Certified Mentor Trainer with the CATCH Canine Trainers Academy. She is also certified in canine and human first aid and CPR, ensuring safety remains a cornerstone of every training experience.

Jason Vaughn is the co-owner and kennel manager of Achieve Obedience Academy, LLC. A professionally trained chef by trade, Jason never planned on a career working with dogs—until he fell in love with a dog-obsessed woman and quickly caught the dog-training bug himself.

In 2025, Jason traded his role as a head chef for a very different kind of daily hustle, stepping away from the kitchen to help grow Achieve Obedience Academy into the small, family-run business it is today. He brings the same precision, dedication, and strong work ethic from his culinary background into every aspect of the facility’s operations—just with a lot more fur and far fewer knives.

Jason has a fierce love for animals, and it shows in the care, patience, and support he offers every dog that comes through AOA. While he often works behind the scenes, clients will frequently find him assisting in classes, handling and walking dogs, driving the day-training pick-up and drop-off bus, and tackling whatever odd jobs the day throws his way.

And on the rare occasion Jason isn’t at the Academy, he’s likely at home attempting to manage the daily chaos brought on by their 11 personal dogs, particularly his Siberian Husky, Tullamore Dew—a full-time reminder that even the most dedicated dog professionals are never truly off duty.
